Have you ever seen a celebrity wearing a certain lipstick color and become so obsessed you ran out and purchased it regardless of whether or not it looked good on you?  I recently had that experience with Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($24 at Sephora and Nordstrom).  I saw a photo of Anne Hathaway (who could probably pull off any lipstick color in the world!) wearing this product in ‘Bolero’ and it looked so pretty and pink and matte and perfect.  I purchased immediately.  This jumbo sized crayon is a cross between a creamy lip liner and a precisely pointed lipstick.  The formula is not at all drying (like so many matte lipsticks are) and it stays put.  Bolero is a pretty light pink (dare I say grapefruit?) color that I had hoped would be a nice daytime shade for me.  Unfortunately I am no Anne Hathaway and the color didn’t work.  On me it was a little too pinky and reminiscent of the Mary Kay frosted lip gloss we all wore in the 80’s.  Although I missed the mark on the shade I do believe the product is a winner and I will definitely try another color.
