Theatres at Mall of America® will add Sensory Friendly Films in partnership with Autism Speaks® to their popular Free Family Flicks program. In addition to the screen dedicated to Free Family Flicks every Saturday at 10 a.m., there will be an additional screen with the same featured movie for the sensory-friendly audience.
Sensory friendly films offer families struggling with autism an opportunity to enjoy a family outing in a safe and accepting environment. Simple adjustments like turning the sound down, leaving the lights up and offering additional staff within the theater to help with concessions make a film screening sensory-friendly and welcoming to families who struggle with autism. Audience members are welcome to dance, sing and walk around without judgment or scrutiny.
To launch this new initiative, Theatres at Mall of America will begin offering sensory friendly films on Saturday, September 24 at 10:30 a.m. with four theatre houses of seating directly following the 5th Annual Minnesota Walk Now for Autism Speaks at Mall of America®. The kick-off movie will be “Yogi Bear.” Visit www.walknowforautismspeaks.org/minnesota for more information about the walk.
