Summer 2012 Movie Preview

Summer has finally arrived and, along with it, have come three months of much-anticipated blockbuster flicks! Though, I enjoy spending as much time as possible lakeside during these sunny months, the occasional rainy day definitely calls for an afternoon at the theater. And with movies like this, I might even start wishing for cloudy days. While there are many to choose from, here are five movies that I can’t wait to see this season.

Snow White and the Huntsman
Trailer
  |  Release Date: June 1

I am so looking forward to this epic action-adventure coming to theaters next week. In “Snow White and the Huntsman,” Snow White (Kristin Stewart) is the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) that was dispatched to capture her.

Rock of Ages
Trailer
  |  Release Date: June 15

“Rock of Ages” is the story of small town girl Sherrie (Julianne Hough) and city boy Drew (Diego Boneta), who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison and Whitesnake, to name a few. The part I’m most looking forward to? Seeing Tom Cruise belt it out as Stacee Jaxx!

The Amazing Spider-Man
Trailer
  |  Release Date: July 3

Nothing is worse than lack of chemistry during on-screen romance, but I have a feeling that real-life boyfriend and girlfriend Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield will have no problem acting out their chemistry in “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Like most teenagers, Peter (Andrew Garfield) is trying to navigate high school and his first crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). Together, they struggle with love, commitment and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors, his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

The Dark Knight Rises
Trailer
  |  Release Date: July 20

My favorite thing about the movies this season is that they’re date-friendly. While, “The Dark Knight Rises” is far from a romantic comedy, I think any boyfriend would be happy to take his lady to this show. After eight years of struggling with his new status as a wanted vigilante, Batman (Christian Bale) must contend with newcomers Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) and the brutal and villainous Bane (Tom Hardy).

The Bourne Legacy
Trailer
  |  Release Date: August 3

I’m a bit behind on the Bourne series, about three movies and all the books behind, but I’m still pumped about “The Bourne Legacy” out in August. I think three months is plenty of time to catch up on the whereabouts of Mr. Bourne. Tony Gilroy (writer/director) takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise: “The Bourne Legacy.” He’s expanding the “Bourne” universe with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.
