Congratulations kwedin08 and karenstar on each winning a Race for the Cure sweatshirt!
In the spring of 1993, 2,500 Minnesotans gathered at a local mall to commence the first Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, a 5k fitness run/walk to support the thousands of men and women affected by breast cancer. Twenty years later, that number has grown to nearly 50,000 participants. This year’s event is more than just a walk; it’s a celebration of two decades of effort and support among Minnesotans to find a cure for breast cancer.
As the Minnesota Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure laces up to celebrate their 20th Anniversary, we’d like to extend a special, “Thank You,” to all of the courageous survivors and supporters over the past two decades and future years to come!
We want to hear your story.
Comment below (and provide a valid email address) or email us at prdept@mallofamerica.com and tell us how breast cancer has affected you or someone you know. We’ll choose two entries to receive a Race for the Cure ladies sweatshirt donated by Shop for the Cure.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Marilu Henner Q & A Giveaway. Congratulations to Suzanne P., Mac and Jennifer and Andrew R. on winning a copy of Marilu Henner’s book!
Marilu Henner, well known from her days as Elaine O’Connor Nardo on the popular sitcom “Taxi,”will stop by Mall of America on Wednesday, May 2 to sign copies of her new book, “Total Memory Makeover: Uncover Your Past, Take Charge of Your Future.” I was lucky enough to be able to chat with this gem of a lady to learn more about the book and her rare ability to vividly recall every detail of her life since childhood!
1. What will readers get out of your new book, “Total Memory Makeover: Uncover Your Past, Take Charge of Your Future”?
Readers will get a new perspective on their past. They will get memories coming up, flooding in that they’ve thought were long forgotten. My theory, belief and experience with other people (I’ve been teaching memory for a long time) is that every single thing that you’ve been through is somewhere on your emotional hard drive and it’s informing your life whether or not you think it is or whether or not you’re acknowledging it. Why not tap into this well of knowledge about yourself that can become so much more readily available for you to make better decisions in the future? Most memory books are about pneumonic devices or memorizing decks of cards, people’s names and grocery lists. My book is about knowing about you. It’s about refreshing your past and being able to reexamine it and figure out how to best use it going forward.
2. You are known as one of only 12 people documented in the world with Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory (HSAM). What is the best way to describe this rare ability?
Most people remember eight to 11 events within a year of their life. People with HSAM remember 200+. You can give me a date, I’ll tell you what day of the week it was and what I was doing on that day. It really comes into strong focus around 11 and 12, but I remember many other days prior to that since I was a teeny tiny little baby – it wasn’t like one day something happened and then I have it. People called me the memory kid – I just had this unusual memory, even for a very young child.
3. Your beloved role on “Taxi” is a fond memory for many of your fans. What is your favorite memory from your days working on the show?
I always cite December 21, 1979, which was a Friday. We did a show called “Shut It Down” parts 1 and 2, and it was so fabulous and so much fun to do. It was about the cabbies going on strike and I become the strike’s leader and the only way Danny Devito (Louie De Palma) will settle it is if I go on a date with him. So there’s this negotiation scene that’s very funny and we go on this date that’s just crazy. It was just this wonderful wonderful episode and it was two parts shot in one evening right before our big Christmas party, so it was a lot of fun.
Want to win your very own copy of Marilu Henner’s new book? Comment below and tell us your favorite memory of Marilu or why you’d like to read her book and you’ll be entered to win one of three books that we’re giving away. To enter, you must comment on this blog post by Wednesday, May 2 at noon and provide a VALID EMAIL ADDRESS. Thank you readers for all of your comments. Congratulations to Nengchiang Thao, Huechi Lee, Shouamy Herr, Rosine Johnson, Amanda Ly, Alex Tungol, Lindsay Kail, Carolyn Strauss, Brady Johnson and Pangia Moua on each winning a free drink from ChaTime!
ChaTime (Level 3, South), has finally made its way from Taiwan to the Midwest! With over 400 shops worldwide, the Mall of America® location is only the third in the United States. As someone who knows NOTHING about tea, but certainly plenty about coffee, I was extremely intimidated looking at their menu. With no idea where to even begin, Jonathan Chong from ChaTime walked me through all the different options. Let me break some of it down for you:
Milk Tea: ChaTime makes their Milk Tea with Black Tea or as Chong referred to it “Sun Moon Lake.” In the simplest form, it is tea with a small addition of milk, however, ChaTime uses non-dairy creamer. I tried the Bubble Milk Tea which had pearls at the bottom. Pearls, which originated in Taiwan, are chewy balls made of tapioca. Generally they would appear white, but more commonly they appear black because of the brown sugar that is added while making them. This is their best-selling drink worldwide.
Mango Green Tea: This was by far the most refreshing drink that I tried! It was also the least intimidating. Chong explained that you can choose the degree of sugar in each beverage. The range is no sugar – 100 (100 being the regular form or most sugar). The Mango Green Tea also had jelly added to the bottom of the glass. Jelly comes in either a fruit or coffee form. It’s a very similar texture to jell-o but slightly more chewy.
Oolong Tea: Chong had me try the Oolong tea as a latte. This beverage is served unmixed. You can see the liquid split in the middle of the cup with milk on the bottom and tea on top. Tea does have caffeine but not as much as coffee. This beverage makes a great alternative if you are looking to change up your morning drink.
Drinking tea has so many great health benefits and at ChaTime it’s also a lot of fun to drink! While they have dozens of beverage combinations available, they pride themselves on the fact that your drink will be the same no matter where in the world you are drinking ChaTime! Ingredients are the same and everything is measured perfectly to order, making the flavor of your drink consistent across all countries.
ChaTime wants to convert more people like me to be tea drinkers! Comment below and tell us “What about Tea intimidates you?” for a chance to win a FREE beverage at ChaTime. We will randomly select ten winners! To enter, you must comment on this blog post by Wednesday, April 18 at noon and provide a VALID EMAIL ADDRESS. We’ll announce the winners via email and update the post to reflect that we’ve chosen a winner.

We all know Tangerine is one of the hot hues this spring but when you pair it with a pop of pink, it takes on a personality of its own. This sherbet-inspired prom look is sugary sweet with a little added sass. Yes, basic black is always a winner but punchy brights create a prom look that will leave the rest of your group totally green (errr… orange) with envy. Go on, it’s OK. It won’t bite.
