This #tbt we’re flashing back to 1992 – the hair was big, bright colors were in and rollerblading was the perfect cardio. Though we always want to be the place for fun in YOUR life, we’ve also come a long way from the days of power suits and perms. Take a peek at the commercial below from the year Mall of America® was born and see what a difference 22 years can make.
While the excitement and fun in the original commercial remains, the fashion has (luckily) changed. In honor of #tbt let’s take a look at how far we have come since the commercial has aired!
The Straw Hat
Light and versatile, the straw hat is still as much of summer staple as it was in the 90’s. While the one if the commercial is a true throwback, this Free People (Level 1, South) option is a great update on the summer classic. The Panama hat is perfect for hanging out at the lake or the casual summer music festival.
From oversized and baggy to fitted and funky, children’s fashions have pulled a complete 180°. We are diggin’ the trendy denim washes, rockin’ graphics and fun fashion hats spotted at kid’s favorite RUUM (Level 2, South).
While the fit and flare dress will forever remain a prom classic, we have ditched the belted waist and added a lot more sparkle. MOA retailers like Glitz! (Level 3, North), Caché (Level 1, West) and Nordstrom are great stops for gorgous prom gear, like this pink fit and flare stunner from Glitz! which features a beautiful rhinestone bodice and on-trend cap sleeves. When I was preparing a Minnesota Twins baseball inspired style post one year ago to kick off the 2013 home opener, the focus was all about layers because here in Minnesota, the weather is almost as unpredictable as the final score of the game. It was 35 degrees! I’m happy to say it’s a new year, a fresh season and the weather is for once, on our side. With temps anticipated to hit 70 (no, that’s not a typo), I’m ready to revamp my game day wardrobe. Grab your Twins gear, a cold beer and let’s play ball!
Springtime is a time of renewal—a time to re-energize your life, organize your closet, clean up your wardrobe and prepare for the excitement of the summer ahead. It’s here. Yes, I said it. Why? I can’t go anywhere without my rain boots, I’ve ditched the down coat for a lighter jacket and the hordes of people who had disappeared into a long hibernation have re-emerged carrying children, walking dogs or tossing footballs to eager friends. I’ve even spotted some bare legs and shoulders.
What does this mean for you? It’s time to put away the sweaters and boots and replace them with floral patterns and open-toed shoes. We found some darling little staples that scream warm weather and are perfect replacements for your classic winter baubles.

The fabulous celebrity fashion firing squad duo, Tom and Lorenzo, have added Mall of America® to their list of book tour stops and we’re snapping our fingers in excitement. Before they get here, we asked the guys to give us a little extra sneak peek into what fans will find in their book, “EVERYONE WANTS TO BE ME OR DO ME: Tom & Lorenzo’s fabulous & opinionated guide to celebrity life and style.” So we asked T & L what celebrity they think is owning the spotlight right now; and here’s what they had to say:
“Everyone wants to be me or do me” may be the celebrity affirmation we imagine all stars say in the mirror every morning, but truly A-list superstars manage the trick of making everyone want to be AND do them. And by that we mean they manage the trick of finding themselves at the top of the lists of hottest or most beautiful stars while at the same time getting the public to want to be their best friend. No current star manages this trick better than Jennifer Lawrence. So drop-dead beautiful that Dior practically fell all over themselves to make her the face of the brand, awarding her a contract that took care of her retirement fund (as well as her grandchildren’s) in one fell swoop, she’s also funny, smart, spontaneous and gives the impression that she’s down to earth. The Number 1 job of all stars is to get you to either love them or become fascinated by them. J Law’s a superstar, and will probably remain one for the rest of her life, because she can get you to do both. And it never even looks like she’s trying. Who wouldn’t want a little bit of that kind of talent in their every day life?
