Trend Alert: Cold Shoulder

Christopher Straub, MOA® style expert and "Project Runway" alumni, shows us how to rock the off-the-shoulder trend.

The bare shoulder trend, from strapless off-the-shoulder tops to small cutouts that reveal a peak of the shoulder, is one trend that has taken the recent catwalks by storm. Our very own Mall of America® style expert and “Project Runway” alumni, Christopher Straub, knows the runway trends better than anyone, so we looked to him to show us how to translate the hot trend into our wardrobe.

Little Black Dress Alternative. Christopher’s first look is the perfect alternative to the little black dress for an edgy evening look with a shoulder baring crop top from bebe. Cut-outs are on-trend for evening wear and they aren’t going anywhere soon.

Stylist Tip: Don’t be afraid to mix skin baring trends. Here, the “cold shoulder” and “side-slit” meet to make a daring statement while remaining elegant when paired with classic accessories.

It’s the Simple Things. For the second look, Christopher shows us how shoulder cut-outs can really add some pizazz to a simple knit dress. Give the outfit a laid back, cool-girl vibe with gold-detailed accessories and an oversized military jacket.

Stylist Tip: A knit dress with bare shoulders is a great way to stay covered but still show a hint of skin. Add a military-inspired jacket to this look to give you some stylish street cred.

Country-Chic. For his final look, Christopher shows us a lace cut-out sweater that gives off a pretty, country-chic vibe. The flirty lace detail going down the sleeve is a great way to play with the off-the-shoulder trend. Pair it with your favorite jeans and distressed boots to complete the look.

Stylist Tip: Think outside the box with the cold shoulder trend. Macramé-accented shoulders are the perfect details to give this look an added kick!
