Not to brag, but Mall of America gets a ton of messages. Shoppers (the Mall’s BFFs) are constantly sending MOA’s guest service representatives text messages and chats ISO (in search of) their favorite stores, the perfect gift for their loved ones and when to get in line for the next big performance.
FWIW (for what it’s worth), as one of those representatives fielding your questions, I’ve seen just about every text slang, abbreviation and acronym in the book (or phone). Here are eight of my favorite acronyms and what they mean at MOA.
LOL (Laugh Out Loud)
There are many ways to get your laugh on at MOA. Check out one of the great comedians making a stop at Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy or laugh a little at yourself at Dick’s Last Resort.
BRB (Be Right Back)
DYK (did you know) one lap around the Mall is 1.15 miles? Some people (S/O to our Mall Walkers!) like to visit MOA just to clear their minds and get some exercise. When I need a break, it’s BRB for me and I take a lap.
OMG (Oh My Gosh)
This is an expression I’ve heard from many a shopper. For instance:
- “OMG! When did MOA get an Anthropologie?”
- “Those cookies from Rustica look amazing. OMG.”
- “OMG! Did you know the Sky Karts at Smaaash can reach 40 mph?”
MOA is always moving and shaking and is definitely something to exclaim about.
IDK (I Don’t Know)
You might use this acronym when you can’t decide where to eat. From nationally known brands like Shake Shack to Minnesota home-grown favorites like Cedar + Stone, Urban Table, the possibilities are endless with food courts on Level 3, South and Level 3, North. And if you’re overwhelmed with choices and are still thinking “IDK,” just send a message in the our mobile app to MOA’s guest service reps and we’ll get you headed the right way!
BTW (By The Way)
I highly recommend using this abbreviation when impressing family and friends with trivia about the Mall. Get your facts on the MOA website so you can casually stroll through MOA and say things like, “BTW, there are 1.3 million gallons of water at the SEA LIFE Minnesota Aquarium. NBD.”
FTW (For The Win)
Birthday specials at Hard Rock Cafe and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. FTW. Unlimited ride wristbands at Nickelodeon Universe FTW. Crayons named by you, for you at the Crayola Experience FTW. I’d consider any of these activities at MOA winners.
TGIF (Thank Goodness It’s Friday)
When you finally make it through the week, MOA is a great place to celebrate what you’ve accomplished. Soar into Friday night at FlyOver America or impress your putting partner on a date night at Moose Mountain Adventure Golf.
TBA (To Be Announced)
MOA proudly hosts more than 400 unique events each year. This year, Mall of America is celebrating its 25th birthday with fun and exciting entertainment through August 11th—like this free Boyz II Men concert in the Rotunda. Many fun activities and celebrations are TBA!
