One size does not fit all.
And that’s okay.
This is a mantra I’ve adopted, and I try to remind myself of it as often as possible. Easier said than done, right?
For most of my life, I’ve struggled to find plus-size fashion (or anything above size 12) that I really love. Often the selections were unflattering. Other times the trendiest items varied in sizes from store to store. I felt disappointed and left out when I went shopping as a child.
But those feelings are why I believe talking about plus-size shopping is important. It’s time to talk openly about this topic, share our stories, and embrace plus-size fashion!
There has been a lack of plus-size clothing options for a long time, but luckily that discrepancy is changing. There’s been a shift in how curvy, full-figured women dress—and in what options are available—and it’s an encouraging trend I wish was more prevalent when I was younger.
That change can be felt here at Mall of America, which has been my plus-size shopping playground for years. With thirteen stores now carrying a variety of curvy styles, including the new plus-size activewear shop JunoActive, more women are empowered to define their style. It’s time to get creative with fashion, no matter what the size number is on the tag.
Here are some of my favorite stores to shop for gorgeous plus-sized options:
Torrid
Torrid offers a wide variety of trendy and affordable plus-size fast fashion. Find your perfect pair of denim (they swear by their fit), dresses, tees and more on Level 1, North. #thesecurves
Old Navy
Although the majority of Old Navy extended sizes are online, there are still several flattering options to choose from (in sizes 16-30!) at their flagship store on Level 1, East.
JunoActive
Need help finding plus-size activewear, swimwear or intimates? Look no further than specialty retailer, JunoActive, for sizes 14 to 16X! The brand, which has been around for 20 years, is aiming to be a go-to for women to feel welcomed, no matter their size.
Silver Jeans Co.
Shoppers know Silver Jeans Co. for their high-quality denim and they have just recently expanded their fit and style to flatter every body type. They tailor their plus-size section exclusively for full-figured women and let me tell you: the denim I tried on were some of the most comfortable jeans I’ve ever worn.
