Soccer is on the rise. With three million players ages 5 – 19, the sport has scored the largest youth participation in the United States. I’ve seen first hand (or should I say, “foot”) the popularity of the sport grow from my “glory days” at college to the adult intramural leagues I play in now. With the rapid surge of fans both young and old, the clear next step is expanding Major League Soccer. And now, Minnesota is in on the action with their very own MLS team, Minnesota United FC!
The Loons are Here to Stay
After earning an expansion spot for MLS in 2015, the team changed their name from Minnesota Stars to Minnesota United. The name change largely represents the mission to unite the Twin Cities through this international sport. With their inaugural season upon us, the team has added the highest caliber of recruits from all over the world, in addition to their already strong foundation and they’re ready to take over TCF Bank Stadium!
The passionate fans from the Bold North are pumped to cheer on their team in a nearly sold out stadium for the opening game on March 12.
