When I look at my holiday shopping list every year there are a couple names that send a chill up my spine. They’re names of people I love dearly but they’re also some of the hardest people to shop for on the entire planet, or so I’m convinced. This year I’m taking a different approach, leaving the physical gifts behind and opting, instead, for the gift of experiences. Time spent together always feels like a treat during the chaos of holiday season and a perfect way to start the new year once the holidays have passed.
Of course, if you need a variety of experiences for a variety of age groups, Mall of America is the perfect one-stop shop. From soaring roller coasters to well-curated exhibits, there’s no shortage of options. Though it’s hard to narrow down, here are three of my must-give experiences this holiday season. The impossible-to-buy-for folks will thank you!
Limited Engagements
MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition (Level 3, Central Parkway) is only here for a limited time through January 15, 2017. Bring your family and friends together for an evening of solving myths with the Discovery Channel crew! The exhibit is located within Culinary on North, so be sure to also enjoy some delicious post-mythbusting treats.
Dressing Downton™ (Level 1, South) has my mother-in-law’s name written all over it. I can’t wait to surprise her with tickets this holiday season! The exhibit has more than 27 costumes and pieces of jewelry from the hit television show. Plus, stop by the gift shop that boasts holiday trinkets and much, much more.
Explore All Corners of Nickelodeon Universe
Most everyone knows about Nickelodeon Universe® but have you explored every last corner of the seven-acre wonder? From FlyOver America (perfect for my brother!) to Dutchman’s Deck Adventure Course (bought tickets for my nephews!) to the Universe of Light show (it’s free!) there is always something extra to make your experience at the park even more memorable.

Below Level 1 of the Mall there’s a very special place—a place that transports you to an underwater adventure in just one short escalator ride! That special place is Sea Life Minnesota Aquarium. Great for kids from ages one to one hundred, this unique attraction will have you swimming with the sharks, touching stingrays and finding Nemo without leaving blustery Minnesota!
